The First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia Mr. Ivica Dačić opened the exhibition "Jovan Dučić - a Serbian writer and diplomat" at the Palace of Nations in Geneva on March 1st, 2019.
In the presence of the Director General of the United Nations Office in Geneva Mr. Michael Møller, representatives of the City of Geneva, numerous attendees from the diplomatic corps, representatives of international organizations, prominent Swiss and Serbian Diaspora, Minister Dačić pointed to the importance of Jovan Dučić in Serbian and Yugoslav diplomacy and the place that this great writer and diplomat occupies in Serbian literature. He stressed out that Jovan Dučić, in his diplomatic career for over 30 years, served in 9 countries in 13 diplomatic missions and was the first ambassador in the history of Yugoslav diplomacy. Minister Dačić noted that Jovan Dučić left deep traces in Serbian diplomacy and cultural heritage.
This exhibition, organized by The Embassy of the Republic of Serbia in the Swiss Confederation and Permanent Mission of the Republic of Serbia to the United Nations in Geneva, marks the beginning of the cycle of manifestations in the Palace of Nations, dedicated to centenary of the founding of the League of Nations.
The exhibition includes documents and photographs of Jovan Dučić, kept in the Archive of Yugoslavia, Archive of Serbia and Library “Jovan Dučić” in Trebinje, as well as the original documents with Dučić's signature from the Archive of the United Nations Office in Geneva.
The exhibition is open until March 15th.
